Retreatment

Sometimes, a root canal therapy may fail and that’s when retreatment becomes necessary. Although root canal has a high rate of success, it’s possible for the infection to develop or return due to certain circumstances.

A tooth may need a root canal if its pulps or inner tissues found inside the chamber becomes diseased due to trauma. If not treated, these contaminated pulps might risk the neighboring teeth and cause dental pain and tooth loss.

Procedure

Retreatment in Ontario centre may require two visits to the dental office. Nevertheless, the procedure is pretty similar to the regular root canal treatment.

During the first visit, our dentist will clear out the fillings that were applied to the treated area. He will have to reassess the tooth and get to the source of the new or recurring infection. After that, he will place an antibacterial paste in the tooth chamber. For retreatment, dentists would use calcium hydroxide for disinfecting the treatment site. The medication will be left inside and the tooth will be sealed with a temporary filling. Basically, this ends the initial appointment. The patient goes home until the tooth has properly healed.

When the patient comes back, his retreatment in Ontario centre will continue. This begins with removing the temporary filling and the calcium hydroxide. This time, our dentist will thoroughly clean the chamber and wash it with sterile water. Once the tooth is cleaned, he will reshape or contour the insides and polish the spots where rough areas are noticed. To finish the retreatment, your dentist will cover the tooth with permanent filling to protect and seal it for good.

If you want to avoid having to undergo the retreatment in Ontario centre, always heed your dentist’s advice. You might have to return to the clinic even when you don’t have complaints. That would be a good chance for our dentist to check if the tooth has properly healed or if there are no risky fractures that are developing.
